Should I use PVDF or Nitrocellulose?
GenHunter prefers PVDF for the reasons shown below. However, we know that some customers prefer Nitrocellulose, so we offer both types.
Advantages of PVDF:
- Better protein retention (Pluskal, BioTechniques. 1986, 4:272)
- Much more durable allowing easier handling due to higher mechanical strength
- Higher binding capacity (100-200ug/cm^2) vs. NC (80-100ug/cm^2)
- Lower concentrations detected: Requires 5X less antigen, 20X less serum, 10X less secondary antibody (Dalessio, J. Clin. Micro. 1992, 30:1005)
- Superior chemical resistance makes it ideal for staining and re-probing
