HSV-2 antibodies

HSV (herpes simplex virus), is a group of viruses that can cause various infections in humans. There are two main types of HSV: HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 is typically associated with oral herpes, which causes cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth. It can also cause genital herpes through oral-genital contact. HSV-2 is primarily responsible for genital herpes, which causes painful sores or blisters in the genital area. However, both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can infect either the mouth or genitals.

HSV viruses are highly contagious and can be transmitted through direct contact with an infected person's skin or bodily fluids, such as saliva or genital secretions. The viruses can be spread through kissing, sexual contact, sharing personal items like utensils or towels, or from a mother to her newborn during childbirth.

HSV-1 and HSV-2 contain a large, double stranded DNA genome protected by an envelope containing viral glycoproteins. Initial attachment to the plasma membrane occurs through binding of glycoprotein B (gB) and gC to glycosaminoglycans (GAG). HSV gG also binds to GAGs but its role in virus attachment has not been established. Binding to GAGs is followed by interaction of gD with several entry receptors: herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM), nectin-1, nectin-2, and 3-O-sulfated HS. The expression of the receptors differs between tissues and cell types, influencing virus tropism. For instance, HVEM and nectin-1 seem to be the main receptors in the cornea and the nervous system, respectively. Interestingly, HSV-1 requires HVEM to infect the mouse cornea, while HSV-2 does not. Mice lacking HVEM and nectin-1 are resistant to HSV-1 and HSV-2 induced pathogenesis showing the relevance of these receptors for HSV infection.

GenHunter has 2 neutralizing monoclonal antibodies against HSV-2 (Herpes simplex virus 2):  1 targeting glycoprotein B (gB) & the other targeting glycoprotein D (gD).1 targeting glycoprotein B (gB) & the other targeting glycoprotein D (gD).
